About this property

Unwind at Brooklands, the perfect romantic getaway for two, a self-contained cottage of 4 main rooms, surrounded by superb landscaped gardens.
Enjoy complete privacy in this State Heritage-listed cottage built by early settlers in the mid-1800s, a magical place, resonating with the spirit of a bygone age.
Surrounded by 65 acres of farmland, Brooklands cottage has panoramic ocean views between Port Elliot and Victor Harbor, an hour south of Adelaide
Facilities include a bedroom with a queen-size four-poster bed, reverse cycle air-conditioning and an en-suite bathroom with spa bath, a well-appointed kitchen, a comfortable sitting room with a wood fire and TV/DVD + VCR + CD player. Slate floors throughout add to the charm and appeal. Double doors from the bedroom lead to a patio with sea views and a gas BBQ.
We meticulously restored the cottage over the course of seven years, opening it as a B&B towards the end of 2006.
Brooklands also overlooks the Southern Ocean between Granite Island and Horseshoe Bay where, on a clear day, whales can sometimes be seen with a good pair of binoculars without even stirring from the cottage, whilst enjoying its beautiful garden and a glass of complimentary wine.
On the subject of wine, Brooklands is close to the boutique wineries and cellar doors of McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula. Fine local wines and cheeses accompany gourmet food and fresh local produce in renowned Port Elliot restaurants such as The Flying Fish, five minutes drive from Brooklands B&B. Some local restaurants, including the Hotel Elliot,, also offer discounts to guests staying at Brooklands.
Brooklands B&B is in easy reach of the abundant birdlife of the Coorong National Park and well placed for a day trip to see the seals and koala bears on Kangaroo Island. Indeed we overlook Seal Island, where unsuccessful adolescent males from Seal Bay and those who are getting rather long in the tooth are sometimes banished to form a colony of discontent - or so I've been told...
Nothing like that happens at Brooklands though, which is the ideal romantic getaway and weekend escape. Many of our guests come here to celebrate honeymoons, anniversaries and significant birthdays or just to relax and unwind. They often find the cottage so comfortable, the wood fire so inviting, the scenery, birdlife, sea views and historic ambience so compelling that they can scarcely tear themselves away to enjoy the many local festivals, events and attractions. What better way to spend a warm evening than a BBQ on the patio as the sun sets over The Bluff, kangaroos graze under ancient almond trees on the hillside and magpies warble their evensong? Perhaps a gentle stroll up the hill behind the Brooklands cottage for the breathtaking panorama of more than 20 kilometres of coastline stretching from The Coorong to The Bluff, or a short walk, a hundred yards down the creek bed to the old quarry with its whispering sheoks, dry stone walled pool, foxes and colonies of Superb Fairy-wrens and Firetail Finches. Then of course, there's breakfast in bed on a winter's morning, looking out through the French windows across the garden to ducks on the dam, horses in the paddock and the sound of surf breaking along a shell-strewn shore.
Other Brooklands' guests, more actively inclined, enjoy bushwalking along the Heysen Trail or in the nearby conservation parks of Deep Creek and Newland Head, cycling along the Encounter Bikeway linking Victor Harbor to the river port of Goolwa via Port Elliot and Middleton, browsing in antique shops, exploring the local farmers' markets of Victor Harbor and Willunga, walking the numerous historic trails around Port Elliot and Victor Harbor or taking a ride on the Horse-Drawn Tram to Granite Island for a leisurely cafe meal and an evening guided tour to see the Fairy Penguins.
Where else in the world could you find so much so close at hand? No wonder one of our recent guests described Brooklands as "A little touch of Paradise!"
